1. How to Get from Gare du Nord to Disneyland Paris by RER

When travelling from London to Disneyland Paris, most people tend to use the direct Eurostar service from St Pancras International to Marne-la-Vallée station which is situated directly next to both Disneyland Paris as well as Walt Disney Studios Park and the Disney Village. However this train does not run everyday throughout the year (especially during quieter off-peak times) and when it does operate it can quickly sell out leaving you to find an alternative route to get there.

Whenever I have visited Disneyland Paris, I always prefer to take the Eurostar to Gare du Nord in the centre of Paris itself before using the local RER commuter train to travel out to Disneyland. I prefer this route due to the wider choice of train times as well as the trains to and from Gare du Nord often being a lot cheaper. Another advantage is you are able to clear UK Immigration and customs at Gare du Nord on the journey back to London as opposed to the direct train which has to clear immigration at St Pancras – the one time I took the direct train back from Marne-la-Vallée we waited nearly an hour once we arrived at St Pancras as there was only two officers checking the passports for the entire train.

The journey from Gare du Nord to Marne-la-Vallée is incredibly quick and easy as is the process of buying the tickets for the RER train.  This blog post was originally written back in December 2013, updated with new photos in September 2021 and updated once again in October 2022 with all current and up to date information including the latest ticket prices as I recently visited Paris (as well as Disneyland Paris) for a short break.

After arriving at Gare du Nord on the Eurostar, make your way along the platform to the main concourse area of the station where you will see many signs for the RER and the Metro.  Take either the escalator, stairs or elevator down one level and keep following the signs for the RER.

Near the entrance to the RER platforms are a ticket office as well as several ticket machines dotted around which are very simple to use.  You can change the language from French into English, Spanish, German and Italian by pressing the flag button on the bottom of the screen.

To buy tickets from Gare du Nord to Marne-la-Vallée you will need to:

Select “Purchase Tickets” / “Buy Cardboard Tickets”
    Select “Ile de France Tickets”
    Select “Another Station”

Use the keypad on the screen to start typing Marne-la-Vallée and select “Marne-V/Chessy when it appears.

Select what ticket you would like to purchase – either Full Fare, Concession or Child.

Select how many tickets you would like to buy.

At this point if you need to add any other ticket types (such as a child fare), select “Continue Purchasing”.

You will be able to see a list of all of the tickets in your basket on the right hand side of the screen.

As of October 2022, the brand new ticket prices and current one way fares from Gare du Nord to Marne-la-Vallée are:

    Adult – €5.00
Child Aged 4 to 9 – €2.50 (Under 4’s travel for free if they do not occupy a seat)

The final step is payment and the machines will accept credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard and Maestro), Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Google Pay as well as coins.  If you only have banknotes you will need to visit the ticket office to purchase your tickets.

After purchasing your tickets, you will need to take either of the following RER trains to Châtelet Les Halles:

RER Line B in the direction of Robinson / Saint-Rémy-lés-Chevreuse
RER Line D in the direction of Malesherbes / Melun

Once on the platform the television screens display all of the stops that the next train will be making. Châtelet Les Halles is the next station after Gare du Nord so every RER B and D train will make this stop.

As you will be travelling on a commuter train, the one piece of advice I will give is to not travel on the RER during rush hour as both the trains and platforms will be very crowded and it will be difficult to board the trains if you have any large bags or pushchairs with you. Outside of rush hour, you should not have any problems.

After arriving at Châtelet Les Halles, simply follow the signs for RER Line A in the direction of Boissy-St-Léger / Marne-la-Vallée – there is even a Mickey Mouse logo on the signs to help guide the way! Depending on the train, you might only have to walk to the opposite platform.

As the RER Line A train has two different destinations, you will need to check the displays above the platform as well as the television monitors to ensure that you board the correct train for Marne-la-Vallée. The RER trains run frequently throughout the day so you will not have long to wait if you just miss one.

The journey from Châtelet Les Halles to Marne-la-Vallée takes forty minutes and you do not need to worry about missing your stop as Marne-la-Vallée is at the final station at the end of the line.

If you need to access mobile data whilst visiting France, you can purchase a travel E-Sim through Airalo. If you would like to use my referral code NIKKI8866 when signing up, you will receive £2.50 / US$3 off your first purchase.

After arriving at Marne-la-Vallée, you will need your ticket once again to exit the station. The entrance (and security checkpoint) for Disneyland Paris, Walt Disney Studios Paris and the Disney Village is located directly in front of the station.

Buses to the Disney Hotels are located to the side of the station but if you are staying at the Disneyland Hotel or the Hotel New York, it can be much quicker to walk if you do not have any heavy luggage with you.

When taking the RER back to Gare du Nord, the process is exactly the same but simply in reverse however make sure to give yourself a little extra time in case of any delays on the way. Buying a ticket is also easier as you can just select “Tickets for Paris City” on the ticket machines at Marne-la-Vallée station which are valid for the entire journey back to Gare du Nord.

You will need to change trains again at Châtelet Les Halles to the RER Line B train in the direction of Aéroport Charles de Gaulle / Mitry-Claye or RER Line D towards Orry-la-Ville – Coye and ride one stop north to Gare du Nord.

Once back at Gare du Nord, follow the signs from the RER platform for “Grandes Lignes” and the entrance to the Eurostar is clearly signposted.

      Hi Phil.

Thanks for your kind words. It is a very easy trip however when leaving Disneyland Paris to get back to Gare du Nord give yourself a little extra time especially in rush hour as the trains can get busy with all the commuters.

Have fun in Disneyland Paris and enjoy Ratatouille 🙂

Even though I’ve always bought two single tickets each time, from looking on Google I’m led to believe that you can use return tickets on any day.

Sorry but I wouldn’t have any idea how much a taxi would cost but my guess would be very expensive. I would recommend the RER over a taxi any day not just due to cost but due to traffic in the centre of Paris.

We’re looking at going to DLP Feb 2014 from London. The Eurostar isn’t running direct from London to Disneyland Paris at this point, but still goes to Gare du Nord. Will the RER still be open when we go or will it all be closed so we’ll have to find another way of getting there?

I have put a link to this on the Tripadvisor DLP forum. It is by far the best explanation of the journey I’ve seen. I totally discounted it originally but you have won me round! Let you know how we get on in March 2015. 🙂

Anon 21/09/2014 – As for Feb 2015 – no reason why the RER would be closed (unless of course you are travelling in the middle of the night of course)

Sorry for the late reply. I have just checked my etickets for my last visit and we travelled on the 1913 train from Gare du Nord. We left Marne-la-Vallee just after 4pm. It was definitely worth leaving early and having extra time as the trains and the stations got incredibly busy with rush hour traffic. I certainly wouldn’t have wanted any less time to do the journey. Check-in and immigration took about ten minutes so not too long at all – believe me Gare du Nord is an absolute dream of a station compared to the chaos of check in and security for the direct train at Marne-la-Vallee which took forever both times I did it.

Sorry but I have no idea as I’ve only ever travelled with one small wheelie bag each time I’ve been to Paris so have always used the escalators that are right by the area where the Eurostar arrives. Does anyone else know?

      Hi Nikki,

Terrific site! We were wondering if the RER to Marne la vallee was a regular service, say every hour? Or is it like eurostar to marne La vallee where it’s the one service for the day?
      Many thanks,

The RER is a regular commuter train which runs every 10-15 minutes. So if you just miss one, you won’t have long to wait until the next 🙂

Depending on the time of day, give yourself a couple of hours. I think we left Disneyland at 1630 in the afternoon for our 1930 train back to London as we would be hitting rush hour. Always give yourself plenty of time as there was people at Gare du Nord that missed earlier trains.

Hi Nikki, thanks for the info. I’ve several questions here:

1-After we buy the ticket, we proceed to RER B, correct? As you shown the picture of RER B, in order to pass thru the get, what we have to do there?Do we swipe the ticket that we bought or how?

2-Once we pass thru the gate at RER B, we then use train to Châtelet Les Halles RER A, correct? Once we arrive at RER A, we have to walk to RER E as you shown the picture, correct? We don’t have to buy any ticket right?

3-In order to go back to Gare Du Nord station, do we have to buy ticket? Can you tell me the process how?I mean ticket to where we should buy?

Sorry for asking to many questions as this gonna be my first trip to europe.

You take the RER B from Gare du Nord to Chatelet Les Halles.

Once at Chatelet Les Halles walk across the platform and get on the RER A to Marne La Vallee.

You buy one ticket for the journey at Gare du Nord – you’ll need to keep hold of the ticket as you’ll need it to pass through the barriers at both Gare du Nord and Marne La Vallee.

To get back to Gare du Nord you need to buy your tickets at Marne la Vallee – you can either use the machines (there are plenty) or go to the ticket office.

Don’t worry about it too much – it is a very simple and easy journey to make.

The other way of doing this, is to change trains at Lille Europe. There are trains from Lille to the West and East of France that skirt around the capital, stop at Paris CDG airport and then Disneyland. I found this out as we were travelling to Nantes and were dreading crossing Paris in the rush hour with our voluminous rucksacks, and a little homework on voyages-sncf.fr showed us there was a direct train to Nantes. I had no idea the same train also stopped at Disneyland (but it did), and the change was across the platform at Lille.

Bought in advance, tickets are as little as €20 (less for children) and the Lille trains are generally the less busy Brussels Eurostars, so are cheaper.

I am going in October from London to Paris and this is what I found:

SNCB / Eurostar: Departing Oct 08 from London St. Pancras International at 10:24 – Arriving Oct 08 to Paris Nord Eurostar at 13:47 with no changes (€67.50 = $73.15)

Is this the best and/or the cheapest way to go from London to Paris? If so; at what time should I be at St. Pancras International?

Thanks again for helping all of us!

Answer for the question above: I am on a budget too, so I will be staying at the Generator Hostel Paris which is near the Paris Nord and Gare du Nord. I hope this helps…

Check the Eurostar website on http://www.eurostar.com as that train currently has fares for £54 : – there are cheaper fares at different times too.

If you are already in Central London then the Eurostar is definitely the quickest and easiest way to get to Paris.

You’ll need to be at St Pancras at least half an hour before train departure but I would always arrive earlier.

Thank you for such clear instructions. You gave me the confidence to take the family for a magical day out.

One word of warning is to be careful of ‘helpers’ who will try to buy tickets for you and then ask for cash. They are not employees of the station and are using stolen credit cards. If you mention you want to check with security, they will run away quickly.

Once again, thanks for your help.

Do not accept the help of scammers at Gare Du Nord station. You are likely to be approached by people offering to help you buy tickets for the RER train to Disney Land. They will offer to buy your ticket at a machine as the machine doesn’t accept “foreign” bank cards or notes. The tickets are likely to be useless and they charge more for them than the ticket office. We were approached on the 4th Nov 2015. Luckily, I’m a born sceptic and realised the scam.

I would leave Disney at 5pm at the very latest for a train at 8:30pm so you have plenty of time to make the journey – it’s better to get to Gare du Nord a bit early rather than too late. Also, I’ve always used a UK bank card with no problems.

According to RATP the current adult fare is €7.60 and a child fare is €3.80. So by my calculations for the four of you that would be €22.80 from Gare du Nord to Marne la Vallee.

And you cannot miss the signs for the RER.

We are planning to see the central paris first and then move in evening to our hotel at Disney Land. Do you advise one day pass, a RER day pass ? or a single ticket to cover central paris (Effel tower mainly) and then single ticket to our hotel at disney land. Not sure if a RER single day pass will cover both of these journeys. Please advise.

From Gare du Nord to Disney Land the machine charged 3.80 euros for children between 4 n 11. On our way back at the ticket office we got charged an adult fare for children over 9!!

This was tremendously helpful today, especially the sign photos. I would see if you can update the ticket purchase screenshots though since not only do the machines look different, the interface is totally different plus on the machines we worked with (closer to the gates) there were no language options.

We finally got it working (thanks in part to our daughter who took 3 years of HS French). There was a security guy blocking the line to the SNCF counter when we tried to just buy there and the two guys in vests who are “machine helpers” that had who had promised to help us when we got to the front of the machine line promptly disappeared.

I would say to others definitely pay attention to the B train signs – at first we didn’t thinking Nord (our eventual direction) was the one to take but in fact it’s Sur. The photos helped a bunch here along with making sure you take the right “A” train once you switch.

I really appreciate the detail in here and it says a lot that it was so helpful four years on. Thanks!

This is brilliant. We were quoted nearly £1000 for our trip (6 of us) via Eurostar direct. By splitting the journey we will save nearly £400. Thank you for this detailed quide and I see the main change to your post is that the RER ticket machines are now white, not green (as per the comments of a post earlier this year).

Hi, we booked a trip to DLP through Wowcher and only found out that the train included only goes to Paris gard du nord after we received our tickets. We were quite stressed when we realised that we have to make our own way from central Paris, especially looking at some of the fares quoted on the Internet. Reading your blog and the subsequent posts has made us feel a lot happier. We are going on Monday and will let you know how we get on when we return. Many thanks.

Thank you sooooo much for this article. It helps a lot. We have a problem. We’re due to go out on the 22nd March 2018 but a strike by SNCF means that the connecting train after we get off Eurostar at Lille is likely to be cancelled.

We’re trying to get our tickets changed to continue to Gare Du Nord to follow this article in going via Châtelet Les Halles, but there may be a problem in that SNCF controls some of this route also.

Does the SNCF strike affect this route? Also, failing that, what are the alternatives for getting to Disneyland Paris?

Travelling with 4 young ones with very little knowledge of train systems can be very stressful especially when you are travelling from across the globe. But with your detailed information, it has given me at ease with my travelling plans to DLP which makes our visit all more convenient & cheaper. However, very little info has been given on the shuttle from Marne La Vellee to Disneyland Hotels. How do we get to Explorers Hotels from Marne La Vellee St.? Is there a shuttle bus provided or do we have to get a taxi to to the hotel?

When using the ticket machines, we had to go to ‘Tourists Destinations’ to find Marne-le-vallee (Disneyland Paris) Cost one way for adult was €7.60 / child €3.80. Journey took 45 mins as the particular train had a lot of stops.

Very big thanks to Nikki – the instructions were spot on as i used them this month. Keep up with the top tips, we may follow your footsteps in your other journeys. I am a big fan now!!

      Comments to add

      – There are two sets of two RER machines once you get downstairs. If you walk past these if busy and 4 mins later you will reach the escalators to the RER line where there are 10 machines approx.

      – There are also grand line ticket machines , which DO NOT sell RER tickets.

      – Under 4 children is Free , adults 7.80 one way , (i did not see a return option so do not know if cheaper)

      – Highly suggest having enough coins or using a card to take the hassle/stress of using the ticket centre

      – Top of escalators Marne-la-Vallée turn right and DLP is directly opposite, everything is well signed

      – Disneyland village where there are restaurants , coffee and fast food is a left. Anyone can go there regardless of which park you a visiting , if any.

      – We had minor delays on the RER , everything was fine up to challet de hales (held for 4 mins just before station) , and had to wait 6 mins for next train to Gard du nord there plus very slow moving and jam packed train for that one stop too so about 15 min delay. Lesson is build in some buffer as trains can be packed especially if you need room for a pram/push chair.

Thanks for the info it was very helpful when stuck in this hell hole, I pitty anyone having to travel through it absolutely the worst ******* station I’ve ever had the misfortune to visit its proper ordeal, never again. Still took us just over 1h 30m to get from Eurostar to our connecting train RER B with 2 young kids a double pushchair and suitcases. Gare Du Nord lifts and narrow entrances make this station near impossible to navigate and there is no one around on a sunday, even buying a ticket on the machine isn’t simple. If you have any issue with mobility avoid this place at all cost, it’s like winning the lottery if you actually manage to get a lift even when it arrives good luck it being empty, then you’ll find you have to get more. Also tip: don’t let the staff show you where the toilet is, they take you out of the gate so then your ticket won’t let you back in again.

Hi, thank yes I for this, so helpful! One question: we will be travelling with three kids, 7, 5 & 1, luggage (two big hiking backpacks so we won’t be wheeling or pulling anything) and a pushchair. Is this doable?! Can we keep the littlest one in the pushchair all the time or will we need to take him out & carry him and the pushchair at any point for stairs, etc? Thank you!

      Reply
      1. Nikki Post author

Hi Kelly. Yes it is doable but (as I did the journey again myself last week) I would say that just make sure that you do not do this journey during rush hour (as the trains are so crowded) and you will be fine. As for the pushchair there are stairs, escalator’s and elevators along all of the journey that you can use but the RER train has two levels so you will either need to stand in the entrance area of the train or if you want a seat, use the few stairs to either go up or down a level. I hope this all makes sense.

You will have to go out of your way to visit the Eiffel Tower on your way back. You would need to continue for another three stops on the RER-A train and change at Charles de Gaulle Étoile station to Line 6 of the Paris Metro. If you want to see the Eiffel Tower from across the river, you would need to get off at Trocadero or if you want to see it up close, get off at Bir-Hakeim.

        Hi Nikki,
Just following up after our trip to Disneyland Paris. We had a great time and your instructions were so helpful, but just wanted to warn others who go the train route to Disney of our experience. Rush hour was NO JOKE and getting on the train to Chalet de Halles was so packed that my 5-year old started crying because she thought she was about to get trampled – it was pretty scary. I was slightly worried about our bags getting pickpocketed since we couldn’t move at all, but luckily it was such a fast one-stop trip. Once we got off the train in Chalet de Halles, we were happy to see the RER A train was right next to us. We walked to the platform, and within 3 minutes the RER A train arrived. I took my 2 young daughters inside and down (as it’s split level up or down), my Mom walked in behind me. My husband was behind all of us and had a backpack (diaper bag) a purple duffle bag and our folded stroller. He was stepping onto the train when a guy bumped into him really hard. My husband is a police officer and he asked the guy if he was okay and based on the scared face he gave my husband it didn’t take long before my husband patted his pocket and yelled an expletive. He dropped the stroller and the duffel in one fell swoop as the man ran out of the other door connected to our train and my husband chased after him right before the doors shut. As the train took off we saw him tackle the guy up an escalator and beyond that we didn’t know what happened. My daughters were terrified. My husband was carrying my cell phone in his pocket so I had to use my Mom’s cell phone to try and reach him, but since we were underground it took a while to get through. We got an alert that my cell phone sent out an SOS (probably when the man got tackled) so it woke all of my family members up back home since it was 2 am their time. Of course my 2-year old would soil herself while my husband had the diaper bag which also had my wallet and our passports inside. When we arrived to Disneyland we had no way to call an uber since I didn’t have my phone, our Disneyland tickets were also on my phone, and my credit cards and ID were with my husband so we just waited for him outside the gates of Disney with two children who had been up since 4 am to make the trek. It was a bad hour. Come to find out when my husband tackled the thief he knocked 6 other phones out from his pockets with family photos of people who did not look like the suspect. My husband pulled the pockets out and my credit card was in there along with my husband’s wallet. The police showed up and arrested the guy but were very disinterested in helping my husband find my missing phone even though it was pinging it’s location nearby. They told him he needed to wait at the station for 2 hours if he wanted to file a police report, and since we only had 1 day at Disneyland we didn’t want to miss the purpose of the trip. I share this story not to depress anyone, but I was very sad by how prevalent this crime was and that they seemed to target families with strollers according to police. They police there told us they work together so if the phone did get tackled off of him someone else in his network likely picked it up. At the end of the day my husband was not badly hurt and we still enjoyed the park with our kids but it made the rest of our time in Europe tough having to share a phone the whole time. Please be very very careful during rush hour, and make sure nothing is in your pockets whatsoever. I usually carry my phone and credit card in my purse but because I was purchasing train tickets and using my phone for instructions I handed them to my husband just minutes before we got on the train to Chalet de Halles and they probably saw me hand an expensive phone to him and saw him put it in his pocket and that was our mistake. Just want to warn anyone else who many make this trip!

Hi Shan the journey is really easy so do not worry and just take your time going through Gare du Nord and you will be fine. I hope your family has a great time at DLP 🙂

      Hi
Your info has been so helpful thank you. Can we purchase these tickets from gare du nord to Disney online ahead to save purchasing in the station? I’m struggling to find it.

Hi Frida although it looks like you can now buy some Paris public transport tickets online in their respective apps, it would not let me book a ticket from Gare du Nord to Marne La Vallee as it said it was not currently possible so buying the tickets at the station is the only option at the moment – but do not worry as it is very quick and easy to do.

You have just taken all of my worry out of the trip! Planning the itinerary with three kids and a husband, I was starting to get really stressed but this has made a massive difference! Thank you so much.

I cannot thank you enough for this post! 🙌🏼 I am so stressed for our trip in November for my little girls 1st birthday, as we’re travelling as a group of 14!! Two of our party have mobility scooters do you know if these are allowed on the RER trains at all? Don’t worry if not! This post has made a huge difference! Thank you again!! Xx

Hello & thank you for this post. I followed the directions today, and vóila, we arrived at Disney for a fraction of the cost of a taxi!

Hi Sunny. If the trains are quiet you will not have any issues however if you are travelling during rush hour then you will struggle to even get yourselves on a train let alone the pram and any luggage.
