The title of this blog will immediately give away the answer of whether or not we made it to Castaway Cay in the Bahamas for the second time on our Halloween on the High Seas “Double Dip” cruise onboard the Disney Dream – but yes we did miss our stop on Disney’s private island that day as we were unable to dock due to Hurricane Ian which I had predicted earlier in the cruise. On our recent trip to California I was looking for things to do whilst we spent a few days in Palm Springs when I noticed a place called Pioneertown on the map. I was immediately intrigued so I had to find out more. Pioneertown is an old Wild West town hidden out in the desert close to Palm Springs and Joshua Tree National Park making it incredibly easy to visit and a perfect side trip when visiting the area. On what should have been our port day in Nassau in the Bahamas on the Disney Dream, I woke up at 6:45am ready to spend the day at sea instead as the previous evening we had been told of a change to our itinerary due to Hurricane Ian. To avoid the worst of the storm they simply switched our sea day and our Nassau day around and overnight we had sailed away from Florida and the Bahamas and out into the Atlantic Ocean. (more…)
