Out of all the travelling that I have done within Europe during the last few years, the train journey from Helsinki Vantaa Airport to Helsinki city centre is definitely one of the easiest, cheapest as well as one of the most user-friendly forms of transportation I have ever used and is by far the best way to travel after arriving in Helsinki. When flying to Oslo in the incredible country of Norway, you will more than likely land at Oslo Gardermoen Airport which is located twenty miles north of the city. Like several airports that I have visited throughout Europe, there are two train services that you can take into the city – one expensive express train aimed at tourists as well as a much more affordable regional train. Both of these trains travel to Oslo Central Station (Oslo Sentralstasjon) also known as Oslo S and take nearly the same amount of time to do the same journey yet one is almost half the price of the other. Norway is already a very expensive country to visit but by taking the cheaper train when you land, you can save a lot of money. (more…)
It feels like forever since I last wrote one of these blog posts but as I recently travelled to Rome for a short break, it felt only right to post another and hopefully more will follow soon now that the world is slowly opening up once again. We flew into Fiumicino Airport (also known as Leonardo da Vinci Airport) and one of the best, easiest, quickest and cheapest ways to get from Fiumicino Airport into Rome itself is to take the non-stop Leonardo Express train direct to Termini Station located in the centre of the city. Arlanda Airport is located twenty five miles from the centre of Stockholm and there are several different transportation options available to travel into the city. On our recent trip to Sweden we used both the Arlanda Express train as well as the Flygbussarna Airport Coach. Whilst these two options are not the cheapest way to travel between the airport and the city centre, they are the definitely the easiest, quickest, best and most convenient. (more…)
This week I was lucky enough to visit the incredible city of Berlin for a couple of days for my first holiday away this year. Currently at the time of writing (August 2020), Berlin has two international airports – Tegel Airport which is located five miles north west from the city centre and Schönefeld Airport which is located a little further away in the south. One of the best ways to travel from Lisbon Airport into the centre of Lisbon is by using the Metro which is cheap, safe, efficient and incredibly simple and easy to use. The Metro station is located next to Terminal 1 (which we used) at Lisbon Airport however if you arrive at Terminal 2 which is used by the low-cost airlines, you will need to take the free shuttle bus between the terminal buildings which runs every ten minutes. On my last trip to Hong Kong, I stayed at one of the airport hotels and I found out that it is possible to take the bus from Hong Kong Airport to Hong Kong Disneyland. In the past I have always taken the MTR train to the park (whether it be from Hong Kong Island or from Tung Chung Station which is close to the airport) so I was interested to see how easy this bus journey would be especially as I have barely used the bus in Hong Kong on my previous visits. It turns out the journey is incredibly easy and as I always do, I have taken photos so you can also see how simple it is. (more…)
When you land at Vienna Airport in Austria, you are immediately confronted with advert after advert for the expensive City Airport Train to the centre of Vienna as soon as you enter the terminal. I am not joking when I say that you will see signs for the CAT train everywhere you look – there’s even luggage going around on the baggage reclaim belts advertising it whilst you are standing there! There is however another and much cheaper option to travel to the city centre which is not advertised anywhere at all – the S-Bahn. Even though the S-Bahn train makes several stops on route, it costs a fraction of the price. (more…)
