Disney Dream Transatlantic Cruise: Day Twelve – At Sea
One thing that was incredibly disorientating on this sailing was just how dark it was outside every morning when we woke up compared to other cruises that we have sailed on. Even though it was 7:00am, it really felt like it was the middle of the night as the sky was pitch black – the only clue to it actually being morning was the sight of the crew setting up all of the sun loungers outside on Deck 11 ready for the day ahead.
And what a day ahead it was going to be. It was Halloween – my favourite day of the year – and even though this was never sold as a Halloween on the High Seas cruise, there was plenty of Halloween fun planned onboard which had started the previous afternoon with the surprise early appearance of Mickey and the gang dressed in their brand new Halloween costumes which we had not been expecting to see on this cruise at all. It was going to be a great day onboard the Disney Dream!

Halloween music was already playing everywhere throughout the ship when we went for a walk before we headed up to Cabanas for some breakfast just after 9:00am and I was in my absolute element when the incredible soundtrack from Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris by John Debney (one of the greatest ride soundtracks ever composed) started playing as we were waiting for an elevator.

After we finished our breakfast we walked outside and Mickey’s House of Villains was playing on the Funnelvision. On this day everything that was playing on the Funnelvision was Halloween-themed which included Muppets Haunted Mansion, Hocus Pocus and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

The final two Mickey and Friends group photos of the cruise (this time they were wearing their Halloween costumes) were at 10:00am and 11:15am so we walked down to the Lobby Atrium about twenty minutes beforehand to join the line whilst singing along to the very catchy It’s Halloween-lo-Ween song from Disneyland Paris which is another track that always makes me smile so much as it brings back so many happy memories from various park trips over the years.
The line was just past Guest Services at this time which was a lot shorter than I was expecting as it was going to be a very popular photo opportunity – when we had walked past on the way to breakfast, there were already people waiting in line and that was over an hour before the characters were due out. You could easily tell that there was a lot of people just standing around and waiting as the Wi-Fi onboard had ground to a halt as so many were using it to help pass the time.
Even though it was a long line – it eventually reached back to the shops on Deck 3 – it did move quickly as soon as the characters appeared to the sounds of Grim Grinning Ghosts as it was so well organised. Stitch was also keeping everyone laughing and entertained whilst we were waiting as he kept pushing into the line and causing mischief as only he can.
At 10:25am we had our photo so we walked back to our room to sit down for a little bit however as we had nothing else to do that morning, we decided to head back down to the Lobby Atrium and wait once again to get one more photo because why not?! I rejoined the line ten minutes before the characters were due back out and once again Stitch was running around and creating havoc as he really wanted to be in the group photo too so even started photobombing in the background. We got another great photo with Mickey and the Gang and even watched as so many people kicked off as they arrived far too late to join the line.

At midday Captain Zvonimir made his daily announcement to let us know that we had sailed 2374 nautical miles since leaving Ponta Delgada and that we only had 317 more to go before we reached a hot and sunny Lookout Cay the following morning where we were now due to dock earlier than originally scheduled which was great news as it meant we would have more time to explore this brand new destination for us.
After listening to all of the horns for the final time (they are blasted at midday on every sea day) we made our way to Cabanas for lunch and was overjoyed to see that there was finally an Indian station for the first time on this sailing. The Vegetable Biryani, Shrimp Curry and Naan Bread were absolutely amazing and the spice level was perfect as they had a great kick to them. Halloween at sea onboard the Disney Dream as well as incredible Indian food made for a very happy me!
I was also overjoyed to see that my favourite Strawberry Panna Cotta that I always used to get at the Pirate Night buffet (which no longer exists on any of the ships) was also available so I had to have one and I also took another one back to our stateroom to enjoy later that night as there was nothing on the dessert menu at dinner that I wanted to order.

Haunted Mansion Trivia was due to start at 2:45pm in the District Lounge and thankfully we arrived just in time to get a seat as it was so popular that people were even sitting on the floor. We scored 16/20 which was a lot more than we expected to get as the majority of my knowledge is about Phantom Manor in Disneyland Paris and Mystic Manor at Hong Kong Disneyland but all of the questions apart from one (the number of Haunted Mansion-style attractions around the world) were about the attraction in both Magic Kingdom and Disneyland.
Once we had finished trivia we walked back up to our stateroom and as we were passing through the Lobby Atrium, we noticed that the Disney Treasure had been added to the map on the wall behind Guest Services and there was also a map of Lookout Cay on display ready for the following morning.

As we had all of the Halloween photos that we wanted to get – we had waited in line for both group photos for two days running and we had also met all of the characters individually in their Halloween costumes the previous afternoon – and as it had been such a late night the previous evening due to Mickey’s Color Spin Dance Party and the Happily Ever After fireworks, we were both feeling exhausted at this point. As we had nothing else that we wanted or needed to do for the next few hours, we decided that a little nap was very much needed so we could enjoy the rest of our last day at sea onboard the Disney Dream and be ready to explore Lookout Cay the following morning as there was a lot that we wanted to see and do there.

A nap was exactly what we both desperately needed and after we woke up feeling so much more refreshed, we walked up to the front of Deck 13 to sit and watch a stunning sunset along with a cold drink and a plate of fries to share as we still had another few hours before dinner.
Trick or Treat was taking place in Cabanas at 5:45pm and 8:30pm for Halloween which was very popular but we decided to not go to this as we were enjoying the sunset far too much (it was the most beautiful one that we had during the entire cruise) and it just felt like it would be a waste of chocolate as we would only have to carry it all home with us and neither of us had any room left in our luggage.

The highlight of our Halloween day at sea was the Character Dance Party which was due to start at 7:30pm in the Lobby Atrium. As the deck parties and character meet and greets had been proving so popular on this cruise, I knew that I wanted to make sure that we had a good view so I walked down to Deck 4 about thirty five minutes before the party was due to start and there was only a few people already waiting so I was able to get a great spot.
More people started arriving once first dining was finishing so I definitely timed this one just right. I never mind getting somewhere a little early to be able to get a good spot and I loved looking at some of the Halloween costumes that people were wearing that evening (my favourites were Deadpool and Wolverine who were dancing next to an inflatable dinosaur) and I loved it even more when the Addams Family theme song started playing whilst we were all waiting and everyone was singing along.
The Character Dance Party was very similar to Mickey’s Mousequerade Party which usually takes place on Halloween on the High Seas cruises albeit with different music. All of the characters arrived and danced to Monster Mash before then taking it in turns to dance to Somebody’s Watching Me, The Purple People Eater, Kernkraft 400, Out of the Woods, Ghostbusters, I Put a Spell on You, The Time Warp and I Want Candy.
During the party my face was hurting from smiling so much and when The Time Warp started playing I was in absolute heaven as three of the things that I absolutely adore and love which I never thought I would see together – Disney characters, Halloween and The Rocky Horror Show – collided together in the most wonderful and perfect way.

Once the party was sadly over, we went outside to sit on Deck 4 to get some fresh air as we still had another fifteen minutes before our dinner in Enchanted Garden.

When we walked down to Enchanted Garden, it really did feel like our cruise was starting to come to an end after nearly two weeks onboard and I remember wondering if this would be my last visit to Enchanted Garden (it’s my favourite Main Dining Room onboard the Disney Dream) as we have no plans to sail on either the Disney Dream or the Disney Fantasy in the next few years and there is every chance that it could be rethemed to something else during a future dry dock.

It was very quiet in Enchanted Garden for dinner where they were serving the Prince and Princess Menu. To start my meal I ordered the Garlic and Parsley Sauteed Shrimp and the Wild Forest Mushroom Soup followed by the Brinjal Bhaji Curry for my main course which was a real let down after the amazing curries in Cabanas at lunchtime as this one had no flavour whatsoever.

After dinner we headed back up to our stateroom as we had decided that we really wanted to get the bulk of our packing done so that we could relax and enjoy the final day of the cruise. Even looking at the map on the television felt strange as it had been nearly two weeks since we had left a very rainy Southampton and soon we would be arriving to sunshine in the Bahamas the following morning.

Once we had got the majority of our packing done (thankfully it did not take very long) and stored the suitcases back underneath the bed, we made our way up to Decks 11 and 12 to walk around and immediately heard This is Halloween when we walked outside as The Nightmare Before Christmas had just started playing on Funnelvision. It was the absolute perfect way to finish our evening onboard but our time outside was short and sweet as it started raining not long afterwards and we had to quickly run back inside for cover.

After enjoying the Strawberry Panna Cotta that I had got for my dessert earlier in the day, I sat in bed with a cup of tea and my iPad but I had to put it away after only a few minutes as once again I could not keep my eyes open. It had been a wonderful Halloween onboard the beautiful Disney Dream but sadly our time crossing the vast Atlantic Ocean was almost over and in the morning we would finally be docked at Disney’s Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point and I could not wait!

It sounds like an incredible day at sea! Halloween on the Disney Dream must have been so fun, especially with all the Halloween-themed activities. I love the idea of character photos and the spooky atmosphere onboard. The Indian food and Panna Cotta sound like the perfect treats to enjoy!
