Located out in the desert sixty miles northwest of the Saudi Arabian capital city of Riyadh is the incredible Edge of the World also known as Jebel Fihrayn which is a 1131 metre high cliff along the five hundred mile long Tuwaik Mountain Range. It is somewhere that I remember seeing a few years ago whilst scrolling through social media and I always wanted to visit but never thought that I would ever get the opportunity. Well earlier this month it finally happened when I found myself in Riyadh for work so I knew that I had to firmly grab this amazing opportunity with both hands and finally visit after waiting for so long. When I visited the beautiful city of Cape Town in South Africa for the first time ever over ten years ago, I made sure to take the cable car to the top of Table Mountain (like so many people do) to see the amazing view over this incredible city. I also remember looking out from the cable car and seeing some people hiking to the top of Table Mountain and I clearly remember thinking “Why would you do that?” (more…)

Hiking up the Diamond Head Crater Trail (known as Lē’ahi in Hawaiian) at sunrise in Honolulu had been on my Hawaii must do list for many years. Diamond Head is one of the most recognisable landmarks in Oahu and hiking to the top for an incredible view of the city and Waikiki Beach is one of the most popular things to do whilst in Honolulu. On our trip to Gibraltar at the end of last year, top of my list of things to do whilst we were there was to hike the Mediterranean Steps (also known as the Med Steps) to the top of the Rock of Gibraltar. The Rock of Gibraltar is the most famous landmark and attraction in Gibraltar and home to the famous Barbary macaques which are the only wild monkey population in Europe. (more…)

Lake Bled in Slovenia is instantly recognisable and somewhere that had always been on my list of places to see for a long time.  No matter where you are in Lake Bled, you are guaranteed beautiful views and great photographs but if you want to get the picture postcard shot of the lake itself, you will have to make a little effort but it is completely worth it. The Hollywood Sign is one of the most iconic and must-do sights in Los Angeles and definitely something that you will want to take a photo of as well as get as close to as possible. However if you look up driving directions to the Hollywood Sign, all of the navigation apps will automatically send you to the Griffith Observatory several miles away. From here (as well as from the other “official” viewing spot at the Hollywood and Highland shopping complex on Hollywood Boulevard), you will only be able to see the Hollywood Sign far away in the distance. As much as I loved my hike to Jardine’s Lookout in Hong Kong last year, I knew that there was a very similar but equally as amazing view of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon which I wanted to see and had yet to discover. After a little bit of research, I discovered that the view is from the Braemar Hill Lookout (also known as the Red Incense Burner Summit) and is known as one of the easiest and quickest “hikes” (it’s more of a short walk as you take the bus most of the way) in Hong Kong. The view of Hong Kong from Victoria Peak is one of the most iconic city views in the world and is usually at the top of every to-do list when visiting Hong Kong. The easiest, quickest and most popular way to get to the Peak is to take the famous Peak Tram which takes seven minutes to get to the top however there can often be long lines which during busy times of the year and on clear days can sometimes be several hours long. Cheung Chau on a Saturday in August. Everything about that sentence indicates it’s not the best idea in the world but this is where I found myself a few weekends ago whilst on a quick trip to Hong Kong.
