The beautiful and fair city of Verona in Italy which is well known to many around the world as the setting of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet has so much more to offer than just a tragic love story. Located out in the desert sixty miles northwest of the Saudi Arabian capital city of Riyadh is the incredible Edge of the World also known as Jebel Fihrayn which is a 1131 metre high cliff along the five hundred mile long Tuwaik Mountain Range. Well earlier this month it finally happened when I found myself in Riyadh for work so I knew that I had to firmly grab this amazing opportunity with both hands and finally visit after waiting for so long. Last year when we stayed at the iconic Wigwam Motel in Holbrook whilst driving Route 66 through Arizona, we said we would also love to stay at the other location in San Bernardino but unfortunately for us on that trip, we simply did not have enough time to be able to fit both into our plans. We did however make a quick stop when we drove past the motel on the final day of our road trip on our way to Santa Monica and said that we would definitely come back and stay on a future trip to California. We made sure to keep that promise that we made to ourselves so whilst in Los Angeles for work this summer, we drove to San Bernardino for one night to finally stay there and sleep in a wigwam once again! When I visited the beautiful city of Cape Town in South Africa for the first time ever over ten years ago, I made sure to take the cable car to the top of Table Mountain (like so many people do) to see the amazing view over this incredible city. I also remember looking out from the cable car and seeing some people hiking to the top of Table Mountain and I clearly remember thinking “Why would you do that?” (more…)
