Route 66 which is also known as the Mother Road and the Main Street of America stretches 2448 miles across eight states from Chicago in Illinois to Santa Monica in California and is the ultimate bucket list road trip for many people. It was something that we had been planning do for such a long time after several cancellations over the last few years and we finally drove Route 66 in September 2023 as part of a much bigger road trip all way from New York to Los Angeles and it was definitely worth the wait. It was 5:45am on disembarkation day when we were woken up early by the thrusters of the Disney Wonder as we docked back into the Port of Galveston on a freezing cold December morning. Who would have thought that exactly one week after we left Galveston on a hot and sunny day with blue skies that we would arrive back to freezing cold temperatures and snow across Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana and Georgia? Five years ago, I had never even been on a cruise ship in my life so waking up on this day knowing that I was going to board my fourth Disney Cruise that morning was an amazing feeling. We were going to be sailing on a Very Merrytime Cruise aboard the beautiful Disney Wonder from Galveston in Texas to the Western Caribbean ports of Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Falmouth as well as having three days at sea. You know that saying “it never rains but it pours” – well that phrase could accurately describe the run up to our long awaited holiday where we would be travelling to Galveston in Texas to board a Very Merrytime Cruise onboard the beautiful Disney Wonder. We had all the details of our trip planned for months and everything was booked and going to plan. We were going to be flying from London to Atlanta and then picking up a car and doing a road trip to Galveston – we even had all our stops planned and hotels booked and were both looking forward to it.
