Disney Treasure Western Caribbean Cruise: Day Three – Cozumel
I really wish that I could start this blog by saying that I had a great night of sleep but the truth was I barely slept all night and I have absolutely no idea why. I’m not sure if I was just overtired but as much as I tried, I struggled to sleep more than an hour or two at the most. I finally gave up trying to get back to sleep once more about 6:30am so walked up to Deck 11 to get some much needed tea to bring back to our stateroom where I sat on our verandah enjoying the fresh air whilst watching the sun rise over the Mexican coastline.
Thankfully we were planning to have a very chilled day in Cozumel as we wanted to get off the ship later that morning after breakfast to explore the local area for a little while before watching Mickey’s Color Spin Dance Party as well as Stories From the Lamp: Aladdin Retold with Coriander and Sage that evening which we were both really looking forward to.
It was such a beautiful morning out (I even saw a dolphin but sadly I was not quick enough to get a photo of it) and I watched from our verandah as we picked up the local Harbour Pilot at 7:10am before we slowly sailed towards Cozumel where the ship turned before docking alongside the Punta Langosta pier. We were the only ship docked at this pier on that day which meant that we had a great view of Cozumel from our stateroom and we could also see the Grandeur of the Seas which was docked at the International Pier further along the seafront and a ten minute drive away from the downtown area.

The Disney Treasure docked alongside the pier in Cozumel at 8:00am and our Cruise Director Trent made an announcement at 8:25am to let everyone know that the ship had been cleared to disembark by the local authorities.
It was a wonderful feeling as we were in no rush that morning so we could take our time having a shower and getting dressed as well as making the most of the Mexican mobile data before we made our way up to Marceline Market for our first time since embarking the ship to get some breakfast at 9:20am. It was not busy at all and there were plenty of tables available (as a lot of people had disembarked the ship as soon as they could) so we enjoyed a relaxed breakfast sitting outside and I was over the moon to get not only a POG (Passionfruit, Orange, Guava) Juice to drink but also a few Raspberry Danish to eat which I had discovered on my last cruise and had been dreaming about ever since!

Once we had finished our breakfast, we walked back to our stateroom to put on some sunscreen and collect our bags before making our way down to Deck 1 to disembark the Disney Treasure just after 10:00am. We walked along the pier and stopped a few times on the way to take some photos including one of the Cozumel sign located halfway between the ship and the Punta Langosta Cruise Terminal.

Once inside the Plaza Punta Langosta shopping centre (which is attached to the cruise terminal building), we stopped at the small observation deck to take a photo looking back towards the beautiful Disney Treasure in the sunshine – and thankfully we had an unobstructed view as there was no other ship docked there that day.
After walking past all of the numerous souvenir shops as well as the awful and overpriced tourist trap jewellery shops such as Diamonds International which blight every cruise port in the Caribbean and beyond, we took the escalator down to street level and made a quick pit stop at Starbucks to get an Iced Latte so we had a cold drink to enjoy as we explored and walked around Cozumel.

Our plans for the rest of the morning were very simple as all we wanted to do was to walk around downtown Cozumel on foot which we had never done before which is one of my favourite ways to explore somewhere new. We had planned our own mini “Free Walking Tour” on Google Maps and started by walking along the waterfront on the Avenida Rafael E Melgar towards the Cozumel Ferry Terminal passing the Puerta de los Atardecer Magicos (Door of the Magical Sunsets) to reach the Coral Reefs Monument.

We then carried on walking along the Malecón San Miguel (as the Avenida Rafael E Melgar is also known) passing the Leap Frog sculpture, the Cultura Calle shipwreck and the Los Carnavaleros sculpture.

We then walked back along the other side of the road towards the Benito Juarez Park which is a large open air plaza located directly opposite the Ferry Terminal in the centre of Downtown Cozumel. This is where you can find the Public Clock Tower, a craft market as well as many souvenir shops, bars, restaurants and another Isla Cozumel sign. There is also plenty of shade here from the trees so it’s also an ideal place to sit down on one of the benches and watch the world go by.

Just off to one side of Benito Juarez Park is the colourful Plaza Confetti where you can find umbrellas hanging over the small alleyway and we then started walking along some of the back streets and enjoying all of the different street art and other randomness that we could find on our way back towards Punta Langosta.

Something that both of us love to do when in another country is to look around a local supermarket to see what we can find. If you are visiting Cozumel and there is something that you have forgotten to bring with you such as any toiletries or if you need to stock up on wine for your stateroom or buy literally anything else (they even sell motorbikes!), there is a large Mega Soriana hypermarket located only a few minutes walk from the Punta Langosta pier. We ended up buying some hot sauces for our collection that we had never seen before and you can easily pay for all of your shopping by credit card.

We had spent just over two hours exploring Downtown Cozumel so we decided to take a slow walk back along the pier towards the Disney Treasure as it was such a hot day and we both really wanted to get out of the sun, get some food and something cold to drink as well as ride the AquaMouse as soon as possible to help cool down.

We were back onboard the Disney Treasure at 12:45pm and after dropping our bags off back in our stateroom and quickly getting changed, we walked up to Deck 13 Aft to find that the AquaMouse was temporarily closed so we headed down to an empty Hero Zone one deck below to finally have a quick game of basketball (which we always try to do whenever we cruise) and as I lost once again, it would be my turn to get out of bed the following morning and go and get us both a cup of tea.
Once we had finished playing basketball, the AquaMouse had reopened and we only had to wait a few minutes as there was hardly anyone waiting. The AquaMouse is based on The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse animation shorts and onboard the Disney Treasure, there are three different versions of the ride – Swiss Meltdown, Scuba Scramble and the new Curse of the Golden Egg (which is exclusive to the Treasure) – which change daily.
In Scuba Scramble, Minnie and Mickey take us on an undersea Port Misadventures trip to Mermaid Lagoon but as always, things do not go quite as planned. There were also three hidden details that I noticed which were the nautical flags above the loading area that spelt out “Mickey Mouse” and the radio found at the entrance to the lift hill that had the numbers 705, 706 and 718 on it – the radio was tuned to 718 which is the shipyard hull number of the Disney Treasure with the other numbers being 705 which is the Disney Wish and 706 which is the future Disney Destiny. The final detail was the “Villain Mountain” sticker on the ride control panel which is a reference to the “Sing a Silly Song” version of the AquaMouse that will feature on the Disney Destiny.
We walked down to the Quiet Cove pool which was very busy and crowded (unlike the previous afternoon) so we decided to get some food instead and as we were in Mexico that day and as it was Cinco de Mayo, we had to get tacos. We made a quick stop in Marceline Market to pick up some fried seafood to add to our Tacos from Donald’s Cantina (as they only have meat available otherwise) as well as a Mango Creme Pot for dessert which I absolutely love.

Once we had eaten our lunch we managed to find a shaded spot in the shadow of the forward funnel on Deck 13 to sit for a little while with a cold drink and hearing the background music from the nearby Toy Story Splash Zone brought back many memories of walking through Toy Story Land at Hong Kong Disneyland over the years.

As it had been such a hot and sweaty morning walking around Cozumel, we decided that we needed to do some laundry. The giant Fairytale Fresh Laundry is located on Deck 8 and each wash or drying cycle costs $3.50 and you can either bring your own laundry pods and dryer sheets to use in the machines or you can purchase them onboard.
Whilst our laundry was on, I walked around the top decks of the Disney Treasure to take some photos of Cozumel in the sunshine and it really was such a perfect afternoon and the water surrounding the ship was such a beautiful bright blue colour.

Just before 4:15pm I walked down to Deck 5 to meet Voyager Minnie as I was told that she wears her adventurer outfit mainly on port days. It was my first time meeting her properly after quickly bumping into her on embarkation day and I honestly think that it is one of my favourite costumes that she wears across the entire fleet.

Our all aboard time that afternoon was at 4:45pm and as our stateroom directly overlooked the pier in Cozumel, we decided to sit and chill on our verandah with a Mimosa in hand in case there were any pier runners to watch. We were not the only ones doing this and when I looked down I could see that many people on the verandahs below us were also standing with drinks in their hands doing the exact same thing. At one point someone even started blasting the Batman theme song when someone was running along the pier which was hysterical to listen to.

We left the pier in Cozumel at 5:10pm and said goodbye to Mexico until next Spring before having a shower, getting dressed and walking up to Mickey’s Festival of Foods where we shared a small plate of fries and started to look forward to the evening ahead.

I was so excited when I found out that Mickey’s Color Spin Dance Party was taking place on the Disney Treasure as I had loved watching it last year on our Transatlantic cruise on the Disney Dream. However on that cruise I had someone trying to push me out of the way for the entire deck party which had slightly ruined my enjoyment of it and I did not want that to happen again on this cruise.
One of my favourite things to do on any Disney Cruise is to watch all of the deck parties (no matter how many times I have seen them before) and I never mind getting there early to ensure that I get a good view. Mickey’s Color Spin Deck Party was due to start at 7:30pm and after taking some photos of the beautiful sunset out to sea, I grabbed our spot on Deck 12 about forty minutes beforehand and a handful of other people started to arrive shortly afterward.

One thing that definitely surprised me was how quiet it was for Mickey’s Color Spin Deck Party onboard the Disney Treasure. Compared to our Transatlantic cruise, it was immediately noticeable as everyone had so much space around them and even though a few more people arrived just before it started, it was definitely the calmest and least crowded deck party that I have ever been to in fourteen cruises.

Mickey’s Color Spin Deck Party is a fun and energetic retro nineties-themed dance party where Mickey and the Gang (along with the absolutely amazing dancers from the Walt Disney Theatre) spin the colour wheel and dance to upbeat pop versions of their favourite Disney songs and the entertainment team started the party off with a singalong to Into the Unknown.
Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Chip, Dale, Pluto and Goofy kick things off by dancing to Be Our Guest before the colour wheel spins and picks Minnie and Daisy who dance to Someday My Prince Will Come and True to Your Heart. Pluto was up next and he showed off his moves with Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride, I Just Can’t Wait to be King and I Wanna Be Like You.
Max arrives on the stage for Stand Out and I 2 I along with Goofy who also dances to How Far I’ll Go and Go the Distance. After a long wait Donald finally gets picked for You’re Welcome and Zero to Hero and make sure to watch Donald throughout the party as his reactions every time he doesn’t get picked for a song are so funny. The colour wheel then turns a villainous purple and picks Chip and Dale for Poor Unfortunate Souls and Be Prepared before all the colours are finally brought together for Mickey to lead everyone in We’re All in This Together.
Mickey’s Color Spin Dance Party is an incredible show with catchy music and non stop dancing that will make you have the biggest smile on your face from start to finish and it’s impossible not to join in! Even though I have seen the show before on the Disney Dream, it really feels like it was made for the Disney Treasure as the larger stage gives the characters and dancers more room to perform and even the steps around the deck and up to the stage itself are lit up in all colours of the rainbow.
What made it even better though was that the area where we were standing on Deck 12 was really quiet so we had so much space to take photos, dance or just stand back and enjoy the show without feeling crowded. It was so much fun and I loved every minute of it.

Our dinner on this night was in 1923: Walt Disney which I loved as we had been sat in the Roy Disney side of the restuarant when we sailed on the Disney Wish. After barely sleeping the evening before, I was definitely starting to feel tired and was not really feeling that hungry as a result.
To start my meal I ordered a double portion of the Alameda Porcini Spiced Ahi Tuna followed by just one of the Buena Vista Soft Shell Tacos which are normally served as a portion of two but I knew that I would never be able to eat both (and I would never want any food to go to waste) so do not be afraid to ask for either a smaller or a bigger portion when ordering your dinner.
Even though I was feeling so full I had to order the Atwater Fuji Apple Cheesecake for my dessert as it was one of my favourite desserts from when we sailed on the Disney Wish.

Once we finished our dinner we quickly met Princess Tiana on the Deck 5 Balcony followed straightaway by Mirabel and Bruno (who we were meeting for the first time ever) in the Grand Hall Vestibule.

I also spotted Daisy who was walking around Deck 4 by herself who wanted to see all the photos that I had taken of her during the Color Spin Deck Party which she loved as she looked fabulous in them as she always does. It’s definitely true that the camera loves Daisy but not as much as Daisy loves the camera!

After watching the Kiss Goodnight at 10:00pm, we grabbed a spot on Deck 4 to watch Stories From the Lamp – Aladdin Retold featuring Coriander and Sage which was due to start at 10:15pm on the stage of the Grand Hall which is truly the perfect location as it is themed after Agrabah.
During this brilliant and funny show Coriander and Sage (along with an adorable wooden puppet of Abu) retell the story of Aladdin and play every single character in the story – Aladdin, Jasmine, Genie, The Sultan, Jafar and Iago as well as the Magic Carpet – and switch seamlessly between them all in seconds using a variety of hats, scarves and props found in their steamer trunks and they also sing snippets of the songs from the movie including Arabian Nights, One Jump Ahead, A Friend Like Me, Prince Ali and A Whole New World.
I always knew that I was going to love the Disney Treasure and this amazing not-to-be-missed show was just another reason why I was having the absolutely best time onboard. We both enjoyed Stories From the Lamp – Aladdin Retold so much that we immediately knew we wanted to watch it again and thankfully it was scheduled for a second time three days later.

Once the show was over Aladdin and Jasmine came out into the Grand Hall to meet everyone and whilst I was taking a quick picture of the stage, Coriander and Sage also appeared for photos which we were not expecting so we had the chance to meet them and talk with them once again. They also let me meet the adorable Abu and as I love monkeys so much, I was almost holding back the tears as I was so happy.
The incredible Coriander and Sage are without a doubt one of the absolute highlights of sailing onboard the Disney Treasure. If you ever find yourself sailing onboard this magical and beautiful ship, do not miss a single one of their many performances throughout the cruise. They truly made this cruise so special for both of us and we will forever be so grateful – and this was only our third evening onboard with so much more to come.

Climbing into bed that night was truly the best feeling ever however before we fell asleep, we quickly read the Tendering Information that had been left for us during the turndown service ready for the following morning as we had plans in Grand Cayman and wanted to be off the ship as soon as possible.

Even after spending such a long and tiring day running around on hardly any sleep, it was truly a wonderful day and one that I have such fond memories of. The Disney Treasure already had my heart and it was only going to get better and better. And with that happy thought in mind, I finally drifted off into a deep sleep ready for our day exploring beautiful Grand Cayman.
