1. Disney Treasure Western Caribbean Cruise: Day Two – At Sea

After nearly eight hours of sleep, I woke up just after 7:30am which was the latest I had slept all week since we arrived in Florida and a clear sign of just how tired we both had been the night before. It was already light outside so I got out of bed and stepped out onto the verandah to an absolutely beautiful and perfect morning with a little humidity in the air and my camera lens immediately fogged up as a result. We were incredibly lucky with the weather during our cruise aboard the Disney Treasure as we had no rain whatsoever the entire week and perfect bright blue skies every single day.

We sat in bed and watched the Good Morning Disney Treasure show on the television with a cup of tea and a pastry each from Marceline Market as we did not want to eat too much that morning as we had brunch at Palo Steakhouse booked at 12:30pm. As we were sailing so close to the Florida Keys, we also made the most of the mobile data that we still had before we sailed further away from land and out into the Gulf of Mexico towards our first port of Cozumel. Having a quiet and lazy start to our morning was a great way to begin our first day at sea

Eventually we decided to finally get out of bed, have a shower and get dressed and begin our day by walking around the ship to see what was going on. The first thing that was immediately noticeable was the amount of Star Wars t-shirts that so many people were wearing as it was May the Fourth aka Star Wars Day. We also had a look around Mickey’s Mainsail once more as it was a lot quieter than the previous evening and they still had everything in stock including all of the Disney Treasure specific merchandise. I also loved seeing all of the amazing Disney-themed nautical displays around the store but especially loved the miniature Mount Rustmore which I would have bought if I could!

We also stopped by the Treasures Untold store on Deck 3 as I had seen that there was a Society of Explorers and Adventurers porthole on the wall and I wanted to see it in person.

The Society of Explorers and Adventurers (SEA) is a fictional organisation created by Disney featuring an interconnected storyline that links various theme park attractions around the world as well as onboard all of the Disney Cruise Line ships – Captain Mary Oceaneer (from the Oceaneer Lab) is one of the members of the club.

One of my favourite things to do when visiting the parks or whilst on a cruise is to try and find as many SEA references as I can – two of the best places to explore are the whole of Tokyo DisneySea as well as my all-time favourite ride in the world which is Mystic Manor at Hong Kong Disneyland which I found a reference to in the Skipper Society a few days later.

At this time they were also setting up the Grand Hall ready for The Jungle Cruise: An Interactive Story Adventure at 12:45pm featuring Coriander and Sage as Skipper Lily and Skipper Frank which we would sadly miss due to being at Palo but thankfully it was also scheduled again a few days later.

Just before Midday we walked up to Deck 14 Forward to listen to the ship’s horns which are blasted at this time on a sea day – this was also the main reason why we booked a later time for our brunch at Palo as we did not want to miss them. We heard the Star Wars theme (for May the Fourth), A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes, Be Our Guest, Do You Want to Build a Snowman, An Actors Life for Me, It’s a Small World After All before finishing with the Star Wars theme again.

As we made our way towards Palo Steakhouse which is located on Deck 12 Aft, Captain Marco made his daily announcement to let us know that we were currently only 20 nautical miles from Key West after sailing 329 nautical miles since leaving Port Canaveral the previous afternoon. He also let us know that we were due to arrive into Cozumel the following morning at 8:30am.

Whilst the corridor at the entrance to The Rose onboard the Disney Wish features portraits of the characters from the live action version of Beauty and the Beast, the Disney Treasure has portraits from the animated version instead which I loved as it is my favourite Disney film of all time.

Another subtle change on the Disney Treasure is that the Enchanted Rose is gold and has started to lose its petals whereas on the Disney Wish, it is red and in full bloom and displayed alongside some books (including a copy of Beauty and the Beast) as well as the enchanted mirror. I cannot wait to see what it looks like on the Disney Destiny whenever we decide to sail on her.

We had booked our Palo Steakhouse brunch the minute our booking window opened 120 days before our cruise. As there are so many Concierge guests onboard the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure (and the Disney Destiny will be the same) who get priority booking, it is a little more challenging than normal to get a reservation as it is so popular and you will struggle if you are a Silver Castaway Club member or a first time cruiser. Thankfully we managed to get both the date as well as the exact time that we wanted however we did notice that all of the earlier times had already gone when we booked.

On the Disney Treasure Eastern Caribbean itineraries, Palo Steakhouse brunch is held on all three sea days whereas on the Western Caribbean itinerary that we were sailing, brunch is available on both sea days as well as on Grand Cayman day.

Palo Steakhouse is inspired by Cogsworth from Beauty and the Beast and there are different artworks featuring the animated character which I loved as well as small clock details in the decor throughout the restaurant.

We were shown to one of the tables by a window which was perfect as it was such a beautiful day outside. Brunch at Palo Steakhouse costs $50 per person however one of the benefits of being a Platinum Castaway Club member is either a complimentary Palo Steakhouse brunch or a dinner where you receive a $50 credit to cover the Prix Fixe menu or which can be used towards your choices from the á la carte options. However since our cruise in May 2025, the cost to dine at Palo across the Disney Cruise Line fleet has now increased to $55.

Our wonderful server that morning was the amazing Claudius who was not happy unless he was bringing us more and more food and we began our meal with a complimentary Mimosa and Prosecco (you can also have a Kir Royale or a non-alcoholic drink) as well as a bottle of San Pellegrino sparkling water.

As the menu at Palo and Palo Steakhouse never changes, I already knew what I was going to order (as I have the same items every single time!) so along with the amazing basket of freshly baked breads including my favourite Red Onion Focaccia, I also had a small plate of the delicious Spiced Ahi Tuna and Shrimp along with the Grape and Gorgonzola pizza and the Wild Mushroom Ravioli.

However at this time I also realised that I had the start of a small migraine (which I think was the result of being overtired and overexcited from finally being onboard the Disney Treasure) and I struggled to eat my pizza which I usually inhale and I was absolutely heartbroken that I could not finish it for the first time ever. I quickly ran back to our stateroom to take some medication that I always carry with me when I travel but struggled to eat more than a few bites of my ravioli which left me feeling so sad as Palo brunch is one of my favourite things to do onboard and something I look forward to so much each time we sail. We ended our meal by sharing a Buttermilk Panna Cotta with Strawberry Popping Pearls and Pistachio Crumble for dessert as I did not want anything else to eat at this time.

Thankfully I think I caught my migraine just in time before it got any worse and once we left Palo Steakhouse, we walked back down to our stateroom to change. Even though I just wanted to rest, I also did not want to stay in the room either so we headed to the sun loungers on the shaded side of Deck 4 (one of our favourite places onboard all of the ships) just to sit outside in the fresh air which felt so nice and I even managed to have a little nap which was exactly what I needed.

As I was starting to feel so much better we decided to walk inside to the Grand Hall to meet Mickey in his formal wear who was out on Deck 5 prior to meeting Princess Jasmine in the Grand Hall vestibule. We also met Minnie before I grabbed a much needed coffee from Heihei Cafe and then joined the short lines to meet Belle, Goofy and Moana in quick succession.

Even though it was formal night and Seas the Adventure (which is one of my favourite shows onboard) was playing in the Walt Disney Theatre that evening, I decided against seeing it as I just wanted to go back outside and enjoy the fresh air as much as possible so I could then enjoy our first night at Plaza de Coco that evening which I was so looking forward to.

After we finished meeting the characters in the Grand Hall, we headed back up to our room and I quickly got changed as I really wanted to ride the AquaMouse and I knew that it would have no line at this time. It was also the “Swiss Meltdown” version of the AquaMouse that day which I love but sadly even though there was absolutely no one in line, only double riders were allowed to ride as it was a little windy out on deck.

I decided to walk to the Quiet Cove instead and was completely surprised that the only hot tub onboard the ship was completely empty which I have never seen before as it is always so busy. However I only managed to sit there for about five minutes as all you can hear is the same few seconds of the Swiss Meltdown music from the splashdown at the end of the AquaMouse on constant loop which starts to get old very quickly especially when you had the start of a migraine earlier in the day.

I then walked back to the aft of the ship to see how busy the Quiet Cove pool was and could not believe that it was completely empty as well and I was the only one there. I sat in the pool by myself for about forty five minutes enjoying the shade, peace and quiet, fresh air and incredible view off the back of the Disney Treasure and out to sea which really was the best feeling ever and one of my favourite memories from the entire cruise.

This relaxing time at the Quiet Cove was exactly what I needed and I truly felt like a new person afterwards. On the way back down to our stateroom, I got myself a Green Tea as well as a small slice of pizza as I was starving at this point and I needed something to eat as there was still over an hour and a half to go before our dinner.

Another thing that I noticed and loved was all of the towel animals that had started appearing around the pools on Deck 11 on each day of the cruise.

Once I got back to our stateroom where my boyfriend had been sitting on the verandah with his iPad, I had a quick shower and got ready for the night ahead whilst watching Seas the Adventure which was also shown on the television four times that evening for anyone who did not make it to the Walt Disney Theatre.

As well as the Captain’s Welcome Reception which was taking place in the Grand Hall, Rapunzel was also out on the Deck 5 balcony at 7:15pm so we made sure to head down to meet her.

After meeting Rapunzel and before our dinner we decided to go for a walk around Deck 4 and up onto the bow of the Disney Treasure to watch sunset – it really was such a beautiful and perfect evening.

Our dinner on this night was at Plaza de Coco which is a brand new restaurant and exclusive to the Disney Treasure. As we walked past the Rivera shoe workshop and along the long hallway towards the restaurant we saw photos of the Rivera family throughout the years, letters from Hector to his daughter Coco when she was little, the Rivera family tree, artefacts from the family shoe business, brightly coloured Alebrijes as well as papel picado hanging along the walls.

At the end of the corridor before you enter the restaurant is the beautiful, colourful and grand Ofrenda filled with marigolds, candles, fruit, drinks, Alebrijes, shoes and family photos including the now restored photo of Hector, Mama Imelda and baby Coco as well as a photo of an elderly Mama Coco who passed away at the end of the film.

The setting inside Plaza de Coco is the Mariachi Plaza of the Mexican town of Santa Cecilia and I was so happy to discover that we had a table where we could actually see the stage clearly with no pillars or serving stations in the way. We began our dinner with a Recuerdame cocktail (which was very similar to a Margarita) along with Tortilla Chips and Salsa which replace the normal bread service that you find in the other restaurants onboard.

As Plaza de Coco offers a completely new menu, we naturally wanted to try everything so we ordered one of each appetiser to share including Abuelita Elena’s Shrimp Diabla, the Goats Cheese, Yellow And Red Beet Tower, the Toasted Pumpkin Seed Garbanzo Bean Hummus and the Chorizo Street Croquettes for my boyfriend as I do not eat meat. My favourite dish was definitely the Goat Cheese and Beet Tower (I was expecting it to be the Shrimp) and I could have easily ordered another one to eat straight away as it was that good!

Another detail that I loved in Plaza de Coco was that all of the plates had song lyrics from the movie on them such as “Our Love for Each Other Will Live on Forever”, “Remember Me” and “This Music is my Language and the World es Mi Familia”.

For my main course I ordered the Butternut Squash Enchilada which was I enjoyed but I would have loved if it were a little more spicier.

The “Mi Familia” dinner show on the first night in Plaza de Coco is set three years after the events of the film and features a now grown up Miguel along with Abuelita Elena, Mama Luisa and Papa Enrique and a Mariachi band getting ready for Dia de Los Muertos and inviting travellers from all over the world to join them in their celebration.

Since the truth was discovered that the once revered Ernesto de la Cruz had stolen all of Hector Rivera’s songs and claimed them as his own before killing him, the Rivera family has fully embraced music after banning it for so many years. Their lives are now filled with music, singing, dancing and traditions which helps to keep the memories of their family members alive even after they have passed on.

My favourite moment of the whole night was when everyone in the restaurant booed at the mention of Ernesto’s name and whilst we were enjoying our dinner, Miguel and his entire family kept us entertained by singing versions of The World Es Mi Familia, Much Needed Advice, Un Poco Loco, Besame Mucho, Cucurrucucu Paloma and Cielito Lindo.

For dessert we ordered the Margarita Lime Cheesecake, Tia Gloria’s Flan De Queso, the Mexican Chocolate Tart, the Warm Coconut Tres Leches and a Mama Coco’s Coffee Creme – basically one of everything (except for the Ice Cream Sundae) that we shared as we also wanted to try them all. So many people had told us that the Tres Leches was the best dessert but it was actually my least favourite. I loved the Coffee Creme and enjoyed the Margarita Lime Cheesecake but wished the flavour was a lot stronger than it was as I could barely taste any lime.

The meal ends with the Rivera family hanging the papel picado ready for Dia de los Muertos in three days time before singing The World Es Mi Familia once again.

I absolutely loved our dinner in Plaza de Coco and it was honestly so much better than Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure onboard the Disney Wish which I really did not enjoy. It’s truly amazing how much of a difference a good menu and a clear view of the stage makes – our table was not even close to the stage yet we could easily see everything that was happening. On the Wish, our view was blocked by a giant pillar as well as one of the serving stations which really ruined the experience for us. However on the Disney Treasure, they have moved all of the serving stations to around the outside edges of the restaurant so everyone has a clear view making the entire evening so much more enjoyable for everyone.

After watching the Kiss Goodnight at 10:00pm I took some photos of the six lanterns that surround the chandelier in the Grand Hall – each one of them features an icon which represents the atrium statue on every ship in the current Disney Cruise Line fleet. A Mickey head for the Disney Magic, a seashell for Ariel on the Disney Wonder, a Donald head for the Disney Dream, a Minnie head for the Disney Fantasy, Cinderella’s glass slipper for the Disney Wish and Aladdin’s lamp for the Disney Treasure.

We waited in the Grand Hall as the “Formal Night Party” started shortly afterwards at 10:15pm which was a mini character dance party and featured Minnie, Mickey, Chip and Dale, Donald, Daisy and Goofy dancing to Cha Cha Slide, Let it Go, Conga, Good Time, Try Everything, Uptown Funk, Blinding Lights, Shake it Off and Better When I’m Dancin’ and it was such good fun!

After a lot of dancing and once the party had finished, we took the elevator up to Deck 11 to get a cold drink to take back to our stateroom and get ready for bed. We also had a message on the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app to remind us of the first of our two time changes this cruise and to put our clocks back an hour overnight which was great news as it meant an extra hour in bed which was such a beautiful feeling after a long day at sea.

From a slightly rocky and unwanted start to the day when I had started to get a migraine which ruined my brunch at Palo just slightly, it had turned into the most wonderful day at sea which I had loved every other minute of. I was hoping to get another good night’s sleep that evening as I was really looking forward to exploring Cozumel the following day which is somewhere that neither of us had visited in almost eight years and I could not wait to wake up and be back in Mexico!
