1. Brunch at Remy on the Disney Dream as a Vegetarian

Remy which can be found onboard the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy is a fine dining adult-only restaurant featuring menus by three Michelin-starred Chef Arnaud Lallement of L’Assisette Champenoise near Reims in France and Chef Scott Hunnel of Victoria and Albert’s at the Grand Floridian at Walt Disney World in Florida. The restaurant is named after Remy from the movie Ratatouille who despite being a rat, dreams of one day becoming a chef in Paris.

As we had already enjoyed an incredible dinner at Remy on the Disney Fantasy back in 2019 as well as both dinner and the Dessert Experience at Enchanté onboard the Disney Wish in 2023, we were both looking forward to trying something new and experiencing brunch at Remy for the first time on our recent Transatlantic cruise onboard the beautiful Disney Dream.

Brunch at Remy is normally available on most sea days on each cruise and we had no trouble making a reservation at the date and time of our choosing when our onboard booking window opened 120 days prior to our sailing. This is definitely an experience that you want to savour and remember – our brunch lasted two hours – so do not make any other plans so that you can enjoy every minute of your time there and not have to rush.

Remy is located on Deck 12 Aft of both the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy and after a lazy morning onboard meeting characters, we got showered and changed and made our way up to the restaurant a few minutes before our 11:45am reservation time. We were invited to wait in the Meridian Bar for a few moments before we were invited into Remy where we walked past all of the bottles of wine on display which include a Chateau Cheval Blanc 1947 – the wine that critic Anton Ego orders in the movie – which costs an eye-watering $25,000 and a Grand Vin de Chateau Latour 1961 which Chef Skinner gives to Alfredo Linguini to get him drunk which costs a slightly less $16,000.

There are more Ratatouille details hidden throughout as whilst it may not be obvious at first, once inside you are surrounded everywhere by rats. As well as a small Swarovski “Little Chef” sitting in a chandelier overlooking the restaurant, there are also rats stitched into the upholstery, carved into the wood on the back of the chairs as well as both Remy and his brother Emile on the side of one of the mirrors on the wall.

We were shown to our table by the window which was located in the hidden-away Gusteau Room which I had only seen photos of online so I was excited to finally see it with my own eyes. It is designed to look like the dining room from Gusteau’s restaurant in the movie and there are even paintings which show the view into the kitchen at Gusteau’s as well as the view over the city of Paris. The Gusteau dining room is very quiet, intimate and incredibly private as there is only room for a handful of tables which made for an absolutely perfect brunch experience.

Even though we were sitting in the rich and opulent Gusteau Room, it is good to know that brunch at Remy is a wonderful and relaxed occasion with a laid back atmosphere where you can really just sit back and enjoy the incredible food and once again I was completely wowed with a perfect vegetarian meal.

We were introduced to our amazing server Candido and our Remy brunch experience began with a complimentary glass of Taittinger La Francaise which tasted beautiful as it was so light and not too dry and it will now be one of the drinks that I will always order on any future cruises that we do as I enjoyed it so much. As it was only lunchtime (and as we had a long day ahead of us) we decided against the additional Champagne pairing and simply ordered a bottle of sparkling water instead.

Unlike at dinner where Chef Scott Hunnel and Chef Arnaud Lallement each offer their own tasting menu, the brunch menu was designed by the two of them together. As with our previous meals at Remy and Enchanté, I had visited Remy a few days beforehand to let them know in advance that I do not eat meat as we know that they appreciate knowing about any special dietary requirements in advance instead of last minute as it gives them more time to prepare.

Our amuse-bouche arrived shortly afterwards which was a pea sorbet surrounded by pea foam – simple, fresh and so delicious.

One of the highlights of dining at Remy is the bread which is freshly baked onboard the ship every day using dough that is made in France and is served with three different types of butter – Nori Seaweed, Espelette Pepper and Plain – along with Fleur de Sel and all three of them were absolutely incredible with the nori seaweed being my favourite.

My first course of the menu was called “Asperges” which was asparagus served in a vegetable broth with egg yolk siphon and croutons which was rich and creamy and heaven in a bowl.

My next course was “Gnocchi” with a vin jaune reduction and a vin jaune siphon which was added table side. I was so looking forward to this course after having the best gnocchi I have ever tasted in my life on our last visit to Remy and I was instantly transported back five years to that exact moment which I still remember vividly to this day and I was nearly crying tears of joy with how perfect it was once again.

I was so happy that the gnocchi was just as amazing as I remembered (I have dreamed about that gnocchi ever since) but it turned out that it was the exact same chef – Executive Chef Girish – as on our Disney Fantasy cruise as he came over to our table during our meal and spoke with us and we all laughed at the wonderful coincidence.

My next course was “Tofu / Potato” which was a piece of perfectly-seared tofu on a bed of potatoes with chives in a dill beurre blanc sauce. It was delicious and I loved that Candido offered us more of the wonderful bread and butters to mop up all of that incredible sauce with which we were definitely not going to turn down – that bread and butter is my weakness and I am perfectly okay with that!

My final main course was “Vegetable Pie” which was a small pie filled with beautiful layers of tomato, spinach, mushroom, celery and turnip served with miso which was another absolutely perfect dish and I savoured every single bite.

For dessert we had “Baba Vanille” which was a rum baba cake served with vanilla crème diplomate as well as a small jug of extra rum syrup if we wanted to add more which I took full advantage of as it was so good.

Once again I will always say to visit Remy with a completely open mind as this was not something that I would ever choose to order (it was also the course that I was least looking forward to) but I have learnt to just go with the flow and not to say that I do not like something as unsurprisingly it turned out that I loved every mouthful! It was light and sweet and the perfect dessert.

We were also served a plate of delicious Canelé which went absolutely wonderfully with the double espresso that I ordered which was the best way to end our brunch at Remy that we had looked forward to for so long.

Brunch at Remy costs $80 per person before adding any champagne pairings or other drinks but I do honestly believe that it is worth every penny especially if you are celebrating a special occasion. If you truly love fine dining in elegant surroundings along with the most impeccable service, you will absolutely adore brunch at Remy.

I am so looking forward to our next cruise on the Disney Treasure as we have lunch at Enchanté booked and I am already counting down the days. I cannot wait!
