1. Disney Wish Back to Back Bahamas Cruise: Day Six – Nassau

Despite desperately wanting a lay in on this day, I was wide awake just before 7:00am which was the last thing I wanted after another late night and what I knew was going to be a long day ahead. I was also still feeling incredibly full after having such a wonderful dinner at Enchanté the evening before. After laying in bed awake for a few minutes and realising that I had to move, I decided to do something completely different that I had not ever done before on a cruise and that was to go to the gym!

Thankfully I had packed my gym clothes (which I would not usually have with me on a cruise) as I had worn them two days previously when we had done the Castaway Cay 5K. I quickly got dressed and grabbed my phone and my AirPods before walking down the stairs to Deck 5 and through a completely empty Grand Hall towards the Senses Gym which is located on the starboard side of Deck 5 Forward. Thankfully it was not too busy when I arrived and there were plenty of machines available so I grabbed one of the Cross Trainers and immediately got to work to try and help burn off my Enchanté dinner from the evening before with a perfect view of the ocean through one of the portholes.

I definitely felt so much better after some much needed exercise and it really made me realise how much I had missed walking a few complete laps of Deck 4 after a big dinner which I have always done on the other four ships and which you sadly cannot do on the Disney Wish. I grabbed some cold water to walk around on the outside decks as well as out onto the bow of the ship (which is open during daylight hours when the seas are calm) and I could already see Nassau off in the distance as well as another ship ahead of us and the Carnival Liberty off to the side.

As I walked back through the Grand Hall to get back to our stateroom, I noticed that it was still completely empty so I quickly ran upstairs to get my camera (as well as a couple of different lenses) so I could get some photos of it whilst it was still quiet that morning. It was also lovely to spend some time chatting with one of the Guest Services Cast Members who had seen me taking photos in the Grand Hall and we talked about photography, cruising and all the other Disney Cruise Line ships amongst many other things.

After stopping at the Enchanted Sword Cafe on Deck 5 to get a latte, I walked back up to our stateroom to sit on the verandah and watch as we approached Nassau for the second time that week. At this time it was much more cloudier and overcast compared to our first visit so I was glad that we had done everything that we wanted to in Nassau on that day instead.

It was also due to much busier in Nassau on this day as there were a total of six ships in port so we had already decided that we were going to try and treat this day as a “Day at Sea” and relax and enjoy our time onboard. After cruising across the Atlantic as well as the Pacific we love sea days which there are not many of when sailing onboard the Disney Wish and you do really miss them as in my mind, they are the best part of cruising.

The Harmony of the Seas, Mariner of the Seas and Liberty of the Seas were already docked in Nassau as we arrived into the port and we turned in the harbour before slowly backing into the dock. Not long afterwards the Carnival Liberty arrived in Nassau as well followed shortly by the Brilliance of the Seas – it was definitely going to be a very crowded day in port!

The Disney Wish was cleared to disembark at 9:30am and as we had nowhere on land that we needed to go, we walked down to the Grand Hall to meet Captain Minnie Mouse who was due out at 10:00am. This was the only other character photo that I wanted to get on this cruise (we had met Pirate Captain Minnie a few days beforehand) as even though I have met her so many times before, she wears her Captain’s uniform with the trousers on the Disney Wish unlike the other ships in the fleet.

Even though the line for Minnie was not too long, it was at this time when we started to realise that even though we were on a Back to Back cruise and it was our fifth full day onboard, it was most peoples first full day on the ship (with only one day at Castaway Cay to go) so there was a lot of frantic rushing around as everyone tried to get as much done and meet as many characters as they could in their short time onboard. On a longer cruise, character lines usually get much shorter by the third or fourth day onboard but when the ship only sails short three and four night cruises, that simply does not happen.

After meeting Captain Minnie Mouse we walked up to Deck 5 where we were the last ones in line to meet Donald Duck before we quickly got back into the same line to meet Daisy Duck so just by some careful planning, we were able to meet three characters in less than ten minutes. We then went back down to Deck 4 to join the line to meet Captain Mickey Mouse at 10:30am. We had never intended to meet four characters that morning but it was perfect and just an example of what can happen when you decide to spend a day onboard the ship with very few plans.

Our next stop was Marceline Market for breakfast as it was open until 10:45am and we sat in the outside area to eat whilst watching the busy pier below us. A lot of people do stay onboard the ship when it is docked in Nassau (even though there is so much to do in port) so you are never going to experience a completely empty ship on these days and this was definitely correct as the line for the AquaMouse was the longest I had seen it since we had boarded the Disney Wish – it went all the way down the stairs and onto the deck below. As we had never done a short weekend cruise out of Florida before, it was very interesting to see how different the experience was.

Even though we were treating this day of our cruise as a “Day at Sea”, after breakfast we quickly disembarked the ship and walked along the very busy pier to get some photos of Rapunzel and Pascal on the stern of the Disney Wish as the sun had finally come out. We also stretched our legs for a few minutes and walked towards the Harmony of the Seas just to see how big she actually is in person. We had nearly booked to sail on her on a European cruise back in 2021 and we both said we were glad that we didn’t as she was just way too big – she makes the Disney Wish look small in comparison.

After our short time walking along the pier in Nassau, we reboarded the Disney Wish and explored Decks 4, 5 and 6 in the sunshine and peace and quiet. It was truly a calm and relaxing place to be onboard the ship that day.

Before getting some lunch, we also walked around the top decks but we did not stay outside for long as the smoke and fumes from the funnel of the neighbouring Liberty of the Seas were blowing across the Disney Wish (especially Deck 14 Forward where we were stood) and it was very difficult to breathe.

As we had a reservation for the Enchanté Dessert Experience, we only wanted a light lunch so that we would to be able to enjoy every one of those desserts that afternoon! I had a small plate of shrimp which was a perfect size and it was funny to watch all of the chairs in the outdoor area at Marceline Market blowing across the deck in the wind.

After our small lunch, we walked back to our stateroom to have a shower and get dressed ready to head back to Enchanté for our 2:00pm Dessert Experience reservation. It had never been in our original plans to book this but when our booking window opened online 105 days before the cruise, there was availability so we decided to book it.

We were at The Rose a little early so we took a seat for a few minutes before being introduced to our wonderful server Anthony once again (who had looked after us so well the previous evening) who showed us to one of the booth tables inside the restaurant. Every table was occupied for the Enchanté Dessert Experience and we were also told that there was a very long waiting list in case of any cancellations that day – there were none.

I have written a full and detailed separate blog post all about the Enchanté Dessert Experience onboard the Disney Wish. It is something that definitely should not be missed as all of the desserts very simply divine and it was truly a wonderful way to spend the afternoon onboard.

We left Enchanté just after 3:30pm and walked back down to our stateroom to sit and chill ready for the long evening ahead as it was Pirate Night onboard once again. We did not need to get anymore character photos and all we wanted to do was watch both of the deck parties (Mickey and Minnie’s Pirates in the Caribbean and the Pirates Rockin’ Parlay Party) again as we had enjoyed them so much on the first cruise.

We sat on our verandah and enjoyed a glass of the Rosa Regale wine that we had brought onboard with us whilst watching all of the pier runners in Nassau rushing to get back to their ships – we could hear all of the announcements from the other ships paging their names and then watched as everyone onboard the Harmony of the Seas loudly cheered as their fellow passengers eventually turned up. It was great entertainment to watch!

I walked up to Deck 14 Forward to watch our sailaway just as Captain Andy was making his announcement to say that it was currently rush hour in Nassau and we would be leaving after the Harmony of the Seas and that we would be sailing very slowly overnight as it was only 100 nautical miles between Nassau and Castaway Cay. The Star Wars horn was blasted just before we left the dock much to the shock and annoyance of a group of people standing near me (even though there was a warning announcement) who started screaming at each other that it was too loud.

On a three night cruise onboard the Disney Wish there is a stage show every evening in the Walt Disney Theatre (that night it was The Little Mermaid) so it was very quiet out on deck as we left Nassau and there was only two people sat watching Muppet Treasure Island which is normally shown on every pirate night on Funnelvision.

It was actually very quiet throughout the ship at this time and as usual all of the expensive high-end shops on Deck 3 were completely empty (there was never anyone in them whenever we walked past the whole week) which seems such a waste of valuable space when Mickey’s Mainsail on Deck 5 is so small in comparison and can get very busy and crowded. It would make so much more sense to switch them around as no one goes on a Disney Cruise to buy a Balenciaga handbag or a necklace that costs four million dollars! Even a store that just sold Loungefly as well as Dooney and Bourke bags would make more sense.

At 7:10pm we walked up to Deck 12 to grab our spot to watch Mickey and Minnie’s Pirates in the Caribbean. As the ship was so busy we decided to get there early in case it got very crowded which it did but only in the ten minutes before the deck party started. It is not hard to get a good spot to watch this show but having late seating for dinner definitely helps as you do not have to rush. It also started to get a little chilly on deck so I was glad that I had brought my hoody with me and even though they do not give out pirate bandanas on the Disney Wish like they do onboard the other ships, I had brought an old one with me as it’s perfect for using as a hairband to keep your hair out of your face when it’s windy.

We watched Mickey and Minnie’s Pirates in the Caribbean from the opposite side of Deck 12 to what we had done on the first cruise and it was still just as much fun as it always is and you cannot help but sing (and maybe dance) along.

We were back in Worlds of Marvel for dinner and on this cruise our Head Server had arranged a completely private table for us (on the previous sailing we were seated with another couple on a table for six but treated as separate tables) which made such a wonderful difference and we really enjoyed our dinner so much more as we always request our own table onboard. I also found that I noticed so many more details during the Avengers: Quantum Encounter show that I had completely missed two days beforehand including the Spiderbot that kept appearing on the desk in front of Ant Man and the Wasp.

I was really happy that we were repeating Worlds of Marvel on this cruise as I had really enjoyed the menu in here on our first sailing – and it also gave me the perfect opportunity to order the other vegetarian main course which I wanted to try. To start I made sure to order a double portion of the Sautéed Crimini and Oyster Mushrooms which is one of my favourite things I have ever eaten onboard as well as the White Cheddar and Broccolini Soup. For my main course I ordered the Shiitake and Tofu Udon which was really good (I have never had anything like this on any other cruise) and served with both chilli flakes as well as chilli oil so you can spice it up as much as you would like.

Other little details that I noticed during the Avengers: Quantum Encounter show was Ultron saying “So this is where they keep the children!” to Ant Man as they are standing in the Marvel Super Hero Academy which is actually located in the Oceaneer Club onboard as well as Captain Marvel having to leave as she “has a date with some Kree missiles on the other side of the galaxy” which is a reference to the Avengers Assemble: Flight Force attraction at Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris as the two storylines are happening at exactly the same time.

In the pre-show of Avengers Assemble: Flight Force, Iron Man tries to contact Ant Man and the Wasp who are both “somewhat occupied” as well as Captain America who is “currently engaged in a mission out at sea with Ms Marvel” and there is also footage shown of the battle on the top decks of the Disney Wish as well.

To finish the meal we shared the delicious Wakanda Flourless Chocolate Beetroot Cake as well as the incredible Cheesecake Byte and I also spotted the number “705” on the top of the dessert menu which is the hull number of the Disney Wish.

We left Worlds of Marvel at 9:50pm and as there were long lines for all of the elevators, we walked up the stairs to Deck 12 ready for the Pirates Rockin’ Parlay Party which was due to start at 10:15pm. Even though there were quite a few people already out on deck waiting for the deck party to start, we managed to get the same spot as we had done a few days previously so we knew we were going to have an amazing view.

I think I enjoyed the Pirates Rockin’ Parlay Party even more the second time if that is possible and I definitely watched just as much of the band as I did the fireworks as they were just amazing and the live music was simple incredible.

Once we had finished watching the fireworks and had waited for the majority of the crowds to disappear, we took a slow walk back down to Deck 4 of the Grand Hall to watch the Kiss Goodnight which is completely different on Pirate Night – and features the song A Pirate’s Life (Is a Wonderful Life) from Peter Pan – which we had forgotten to watch on the first cruise.

We did think about getting a slice of pizza before going back to our stateroom but we were still full from dinner so decided against it. However when we got back to our room, we were both completely shocked to find that a gift had been left for us which was a lithograph dated with the maiden voyage of the Disney Wish as well as some Rice Krispie treats. We had no idea how or why until we read the card and discovered that it was from the Guest Services Cast Member that I had been talking to for ages in the Grand Hall that morning. It was a complete surprise that made me feel very emotional and very lost for words.

Once again it did not take long to fall asleep after yet another long day onboard (I was definitely sleeping solidly on this cruise but just not for long enough) and I really was missing being on a much longer cruise as I knew that the next day when we were due to be back at Castaway Cay was our last full day onboard and it was all happening too quickly and the trip that we had waited such a long time for was nearly over!
